Diagonal Ripple Lapghan – Free Crochet Blanket Pattern
For the Diagonal Ripple Lapghan, I modified the Diagonal Chevrons Lapghan pattern to create a different chevron or crochet ripple stitch look.
Many love working the classic crochet ripple stitch in back loop only (BLO) to create a neat ridge effect so I gave it a whirl when working on the bias.
If you love to work crochet blankets from corner-to-corner (also known as working on-the-bias) and you love crochet chevron patterns, then you will really enjoy this crochet C2C blanket pattern! Shortly after I taught myself to crochet, I fell in love with crochet chevrons (or crochet ripples as some prefer to refer to them as). Chevrons/Ripples are created using a classic crochet stitch pattern, but even though they’ve been around for decades, this stitch pattern can also be very modern. I love how simply playing around with color placement or just simply working in back loops only, can really individualize a chevron pattern.
YARN
For this crochet corner to corner blanket pattern, I chose Lion Brand Yarn’s Vanna’s Choice in Dusty Blue. Vanna’s Choice is a great worsted weight acrylic yarn that’s available in 54 colors! You’ll have a hard time choosing colors, but this crochet ripple blanket will look great in any and every color.

Diagonal Ripple Lapghan Instructions
This lapghan is worked corner-to-corner (on the bias) beginning in the lower left corner.
Tip: You may find it helpful to place a SM in the FLO of each ch-1 space and sc2tog to make it easier to find them when working the next row.
Note: Beginning with Row 2, you will work all stitches in the back loop only.
Row 1: With a 6.50mm crochet hook, ch 30, working into the back hump of the ch, [sc, ch 1, sc] in the 2nd ch from your hook, sc in each of the next 12 chs, work a sc2tog in the 1st & 3rd of the next 3 chs (skipping the 2nd ch), sc in each of the next 12 chs, [sc, ch 1, sc] in the last ch. Stitch Count: The stitch count for the border is not crucial.
Tip: If you prefer a wider border, simply repeat round 2 as many times as you’d like. I completed my lapghan with 4 rounds.
Rnd 1: With a 6.50mm crochet hook, join yarn with a standing sc in any corner stitch, work 1 more sc in the same corner, work 1 sc into each st along the first side, * work 3 sc in the next corner, work 1 sc in each st across the next side, * work from * to * 3 times, work 1 more sc into the beginning corner. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, work (sc, ch 1, sc) into the middle sc of the first corner, work (ch 1, skip the next st, sc in the next st) across the edge to the next corner st, * (sc, ch 1, sc) into the middle sc of the next corner, work (ch 1, skip the next st, sc in the next st) across the edge to the next corner st, * work from * to * 3 times. Join with a sl st to the first st of the round.
Rnds 3 – 4: Rep Rnd 2. Join with a sl st at the end of the last round.

I’ve been on here twice now looking for the download button for this pattern. It’s no where to be found. Same with the cowl and men’s cardigan. Really frustrating to have to search from top to bottom of the pattern and still not find it. Someone needs to fix this so I’m going to contact Marly Bird.
I’ve emailed you three times to no avail.

Can this blanket be made in a larger size?
Hi Cass,
It sure can! Simply repeat the increase rows such as Rows 56 – 69, until your blanket is the width you’d like it to be. The stitch counts at the ends of the rows will be off because you’ll still be increasing, but the instructions are the same. Make sure to end with a repeat of Row 69. Then continue on to the instructions for Rows 70 – 83 and repeat them until your blanket is the desired length. Then continue on to Row 84 to complete your blanket.
