Coachella Crochet Shawl Pattern

Make this gorgeous asymmetrical crochet shawl pattern to drape over your shoulders as the perfect layering option for all seasons.

It’s made into a triangle with a boho motif panel along one side that gives it a unique look.

You’re sure to turn heads with this shawl wrapped around your neck or worn over your shoulders. The brilliant shade of yarn that I’ve used makes it a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

You’ll find the free crochet tank top pattern in the post below,  or you can find an ad-free printable PDF (that includes all photo tutorials) on Ravelry, or Etsy (aff).

This shawl is great for all weather to use as a chic layering option.

This crochet shawl pattern is worked up with some solid rows of stitches as well as a bit of lacework. There’s a beautiful motif panel along one side and putting all of these elements together gives you the brilliant Coachella Shawl.

I call it a great layering option because, when made with a nice warm yarn, you can get achieve extra coziness in the cooler months. But because there is lacework in between, it’s also lightweight enough to be used in early spring and autumn.

Why Crochet a Triangular Shawl?

A triangular shawl is not only fashionable but also incredibly practical. Here are a few reasons why you should consider making one:

  • Easy to Make: This pattern is great for advanced beginners, requiring only basic stitches and a few special stitches that are explained below.
  • Customizable: Choose your favorite yarn and color to match your personal style.
  • Perfect for Any Season: Make it with lightweight yarn for spring and summer. It’s great for layering all year round.

How to Crochet a Triangular Shawl

This crochet triangular shawl pattern is worked in a non-traditional way, but the construction is seamless so it’s worked all in one piece.

First, you’ll crochet the boho motif panel and do a bit of shaping so that it looks just right. Since this shawl is worked in one shade, you don’t have to worry about changing colors in between.

After completing the crochet motif panel, you’ll start working the body of the shawl onto the side of the panel and decreasing as you go until it comes to a point. This creates the asymmetrical triangular shape of the wrap.

You can add tassels to your shawl if you prefer, however, I kept mine without.

Yarn

I used Lion Brand Touch of Merino in Ivy DK weight yarn for my scarf. This particular yarn has been discontinued but I have some great options that you can use as alternatives:

  • Lion Brand Truboo Yarn (100 g / 220 m / 241 yds): This is a lightweight 100% rayon from bamboo DK weight yarn which is perfect for open stitchwork and garments with drape.
  • Lion Brand Coboo Yarn (100 g / 212 m / 232 yds): This is a breathable 51% cotton, 49% rayon from bamboo yarn that creates great stitch definition and comes in beautiful solid colors.
  • Lion Brand Feels Like Alpaca Yarn (100 g / 250 m / 273 yds): This is a luxurious 87% acrylic, 7% polyester, 6% nylon yarn which creates soft and flowing garments, great for scarves and wraps.

Most other DK weight yarns can be easily substituted for this shawl, especially since it isn’t a garment where gauge is critical.
