Crochet Granny Triangle
If you’re new to the world of crochet and have just found out about the classic granny square, I’m here to tell you that you can make a very versatile and unique crochet granny triangle from the same cluster stitch. And if you’ve been crocheting for a while, this is a great pattern to add to your crochet toolbox if you haven’t already!
You can make up so many larger projects with this one motif. I used mine in a table runner and you can easily play around with the placement to crochet wall hangings, totes, afghans, and more. Or just keep them as is and use them as coasters.
Youโll find the free crochet granny triangle in the post below,ย or you can find an ad-free printable PDFย (that includes all photo tutorials + a BONUS stitch chart) onย Ravelry, orย Etsy (aff).

I’ve made different versions of this crochet granny triangle, including a striped version and a solid one. They both look fabulous in their own way and depending on how you plan to use them, you can select a color scheme. Once you get a hang of the pattern, you’ll be working them up in no time because this is a beginner-friendly crochet tutorial that’s made from basic stitches.

How to Crochet a Granny Triangle
Crochet granny triangles have a very easy construction. You work each round, join at the end, and then start the next just as you would with a normal granny square.
Once you understand the row repeat, you can make the triangle motif as big or as small as you want by making more or less rows. This allows you to adjust the size for your project and use up scrap yarn as well.

Yarn
Depending on what youโre making with this crochet granny triangle, youโll choose your yarn accordingly. For the colorful variant in the pictures, I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton. This is a wonderfully soft 100% cotton yarn thatโs perfect for projects that get a lot of use out of them.
Itโs currently available in 24 colorways which includes beautiful solid colors as well as variegated ones so you can easily achieve the look you’re going for. Because it’s cotton, it’s easily washable and very durable, making it great for any project โgarment, accessory or home decor.
