I used leftover yarn from my yarn stash to make my lemon scrubby. I chose a combination of Red Heart Yarns Scrubby Smoothie (a worsted weight cotton yarn) and Red Heart Yarns Scrubby Sparkle for this crochet scrubby pattern. Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie has been discontinued, but there are still a couple other great worsted weight cottons in yellow shades that work just as well.

Lily Sugar n Cream in Yellow and Knit Picks Dishie in Bumblebee both make great choices for a yarn substitution. Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton in Buttercup is another great choice.

If you prefer not to use scrubby sparkle yarn, you can easily substitute a worsted weight / 4 cotton yarn in its place.

This crochet dish scrubby pattern is an easy crochet pattern that is great for confident beginners. I’ve included lots of photos for visual aids as you crochet.

You’ll begin your lemon crochet dish scrubby by first crocheting the lemon. The lemon is crocheted in the round, in a spiral (aka continuous rounds). As you crochet the lemon, you’ll be working in the back loops only, and taller stitches are added at each end of the lemon to help shape it.

After crocheting the lemon, the scrubby yarn is added to the lemon’s center by working into the front loops that were left.

The last two steps are to crochet a small lemon leaf and a finger loop and then sewn them on.

The lemon crochet dish scrubby pattern is below, but if you love to work offline, I’ve got a couple other great options for you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Crochet Dish Scrubbies

If you have any questions that I haven’t answered below, always feel free to reach out to me, (e-mail me: ACrochetedSimplicity at Gmail dot Com), and I’ll do my best to help!

What yarn to use for a crochet dish scrubby?

I prefer to use a mix of 100% cotton yarn because it is most absorbent and Red Heart Scrubby Yarn because it makes a great pot scrubber. The cotton yarn in the Lemon Dish Scrubby is softer on your hands, while the scrubby sparkle yarn is great for scrubbing dishes.

How do you wash crochet scrubbies?

Crocheted scrubbies can be thrown right in the washer with other similar items, such as bath towels. You can also had wash them and lay them flat to dry.

How long does it take to crochet a scrubbie?

The answer to this question varies based on the speed of the crocheter, but the Lemon Crochet Dish Scrubby took me less than a half hour to make.
