Linked Double Crochet Tutorial (linked dc)

I’ve never been a fan of the standard double crochet stitch because it creates a “holey” garment. I am, however, in LOVE with the linked dc because it is the complete opposite of the standard dc; It creates a nice tightly woven garment! I also love how visually appealing it is so I’ve been incorporating it into my latest designs. Whether you’re working in rounds or in rows, this tutorial will teach you how to begin each row/round of linked dc and work each subsequent linked dc. **See my Linked Double Crochet Join Tutorial for joining linked dc in the round**

Step 1: Work the first linked dc of each row/round as follows: Ch 2, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook (see yellow arrow in photo A above, this is the front loop of the ch), pull up a loop (see photo B above), insert hook in the same st as ch 2, pull up a loop (see photo C below), yo, pull thru 2 loops (see photo D below), yo, pull thru remaining 2 loops (see photo E below). Beginning linked dc complete. Continue on to step 2.  

Step 2: Work all remaining linked dc in the row/round as follows: See yellow arrow in photo F above, the arrow is pointing at the horizontal bar from the previously worked linked dc, this is where you insert your hook to begin your next linked dc. Insert hook into the horizontal bar of the previous linked dc (see photo F above), pull up a loop, insert hook into next ch (or st) (see the pink arrow in photo F above), pull up a loop, yo, pull thru 2 loops, yo, pull thru remaining 2 loops. Stitch complete.
