In The Nutcracker, the Snow Queen is the enchanting ruler of the glittering Snow Forest..❄️

Who Is the Snow Queen?

In The Nutcracker, the Snow Queen is the enchanting ruler of the glittering Snow Forest. After Clara and the Nutcracker defeat the Mouse King, they begin a wondrous journey toward the Land of Sweets. But to reach it, they must first travel through the sparkling Snow Kingdom—where the Snow Queen welcomes them with grace and grandeur.

She commands the swirling flurry of snowflakes and leads a breathtaking dance as she and her snow sprites guide Clara and the Nutcracker safely on their way. Her presence marks the moment where the story shifts from the world Clara knows into the magical realms beyond—making her the perfect inspiration for a winter-themed ornament!

Jingle Bell Alternatives

If you don’t have jingle bells and can’t find them anywhere close to you, here are a few great alternatives (see photos of all options near the end of this blog post):

  1. Big Yarn Pom: The cheapest alternative is to make a big yarn pom and they’re super easy to make with the help of yarn pom makers!
  2. Shatterproof Ornaments (plain): Another great options is to use a small 2.5″ diameter shatterproof ornament and hot glue the crocheted character to the top of it. You can find these ornaments in dollar stores and big box stores. If you have neither, there are lots of options on Amazon too.
  3. Shatterproof Ornaments (decorative): Same as option 2 above, but these are a little pricier. Amazon has several fun shatterproof ornaments that are more decorative. I think they’ll add a fun twist to the ornaments. Here are a few examples of what I’m referring to: Option 1Option 2, and Option 3.

Option 2: Purchase the ad-free printable PDF from one of my shops:

Yarn

I used Lion Brand Yarn Pound of Love & Basic Stitch for my crochet jingle bell ornament. Both yarns are worsted weight, 100% acrylic yarns. The main reason I chose these yarns is because the colors were perfect for a nutcracker crochet ornament.

Other worsted weight yarns can be substituted.

Attaching the Nutcracker Snow Queen to the Jingle Bell

See photos below for jingle bell alternatives.

If you did not use your ends to stuff your Snow Queen, or you feel she needs more stuffing, add batting (or yarn scraps), to her head and body. Don’t overstuff her body or it’ll be harder to attach her to the jingle bell.

Using a yarn needle and length of yarn to secure Snow Queen to the top loop of the jingle bell. Once she’s snug, secure the yarn, fasten off and weave in ends.

Note: If you struggle getting your Snow Queen tightly secured on top of the jingle bell, you can glue the bottom of her body to the top of the jingle bell. I prefer to use hot glue because it sets up quickly.

Continue on to the Snow Queen’s Magical Wand.

Snow Queen’s Magical Wand

Row 1: With blue yarn & a 4.00mm crochet hook, ch 7, working in the back humps of the ch, sl st in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each ch across, (ch 3, sl st into the last ch) 2 times.

Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn to attach the want to her hand. With a yarn needle and tail of yarn, attach the wand to the ballerina’s arm as shown.
