Maisy Crochet Scarf

Picture yourself outside the house, running your errands, with the snow falling and a cool breeze blowing. You’re wearing your favorite coat and you’ve paired it with a large, cozy crochet scarf that you finished making the evening before. Sounds like you’re ready to tackle the cold weather as you go about your day!

This easy and quick scarf pattern is great for when you want to take a break from all of the other complicated projects you’ve started. It’ll motivate you and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment when it’s ready. And every time you wear it outside, you’ll be grateful you crocheted it!

All of those reasons combined, and just the fact that it’s so comfy, should have you reaching for your crochet hook and yarn, right?

Youโ€™ll find the free beginner-friendly crochet scarf pattern in the post below,ย or you can find an ad-free printable PDFย (that includes all photo tutorials) onย Ravelry, orย Etsy (aff).

Wrap yourself up in the coziness and warmth of this crochet scarf when you’re out for a morning or evening stroll.

Sometimes we over-calculate when buying yarn for a blanket or we just couldn’t resist buying a few skeins of a newly released yarn. It might not be enough for a very big project like an afghan or cardigan but it’s perfect for an accessory like this crochet scarf.

Whatever colorway you’ve selected, this stitch combination will look gorgeous in both solids and variegated yarn. Remember, your crochet scarf is yours to make and wear and you have the creative liberty to choose what you love!

Why Crochet a Scarf?

A rectangular scarf is not only fashionable but also incredibly practical. Here are a few reasons why you should consider making one:

  • Easy to Make: This pattern is great for beginners and experienced crocheters alike, requiring only basic stitches that are explained below.
  • Customizable: Choose your favorite yarn and color to match your personal style.
  • Perfect for Any Season: Make it with different weights of yarn for spring and summer. It’s great for layering all year round. But remember that this will make the final result different from the one that’s pictured!

How to Crochet a Scarf

If this is your first crochet scarf, there’s nothing complicated in its construction. It is crocheted side to side, lengthwise.

There are instructions to allow you to adjust the width and length according to your preferences. This gives you the freedom to crochet it for anyone and turn it into a large, chunky piece, or keep it as a skinny scarf.

You can add tassels to your scarf if you prefer, however, I kept mine without.

Custom Sizing Instructions

Love the look, but prefer a different size? Use these simple instructions to make ANY size scarf!

  • Adjusting Length: To adjust the length of your scarf, increase or decrease your foundation chain in multiples of two.
  • Adjusting Width: To adjust the width of your scarf, work more or fewer repeats of Rows 3 – 4.

Yarn

I used Lion Brand Yarns Color Theory for my version of the Maisy Scarf. This yarn is very soft and squishy and comes in beautiful solid colors. Because it’s acrylic, it’s easily machine washable, dryable and durable, perfect for scarves that get a lot of wear out of them. The smooth, even texture of the yarn makes it ideal for knitting and crocheting beautiful sweaters, scarves, accessories, and home dรฉcor.

It’s also readily available so you don’t have to worry about searching for it too hard or having your preferred colors run out. With the contemporary choices, it’ll fast become a favorite yarn to work with.
