Coastal Waves Crochet Pattern Throw Blanket
Working up a crochet pattern throw blanket is equal parts effort and reward. These projects usually ask for a good amount of yarn but nothing beats the coziness of wrapping a handmade blanket around yourself after a long day.
Made with a variant of the gorgeous crochet wave stitch, the Coastal Waves Crochet Pattern Throw Blanket offers you an adventure in the form of a step-by-step tutorial with photo guide.
Youโll find the crochet pattern throw blanket free below, or you can find an ad-free printable PDFย (that includes all photo tutorials)ย onย Ravelry, or onย Etsyย (aff).

Doesn’t this blanket make you want to run your fingers over it? The subtle texture holds warmth in each stitch and when made with a rich blue tone of yarn, resembles the soft waves of the coast.
If you’re someone who enjoys going to the beach, but know that you won’t be able to visit with winter setting in soon, make yourself this blanket to get the best of both worlds!

How to Crochet a Textured Blanket
One of the best things about crocheting blankets is that you don’t have to worry too much about the construction. There usually isn’t any seaming and if it’s worked in one color, there won’t be a lot of weaving in ends either (apart from when you’ve used up one skein of yarn and attach the next).
This blanket is crocheted sideways, back and forth in rows, depending on how long you’ve decided it’ll be.
Beginning with Row 2, you’ll work all of the rows in the Back Loop Only and that’s what gives soft texture to the blanket.
Once you’re done with the blanket, you can make and attach a yarn tassel at each corner for added personality.

Adjusting the Size of Your Blanket
The written crochet pattern includes instructions to make a crochet baby blanket, lapghan, and large throw, but if you are looking for a smaller or larger blanket, this pattern is pretty simple to adjust.
You can easily increase the length of your blanket by crocheting more chains in the foundation row. You can increase the width of your blanket by working more of the specified rows.
For help determining what size to make your crocheted blanket, check out my Standard Blanket Size Chart.
Size Chart
Use these instructions to make a blanket any size you’d like.
- Make your blanket any length by crocheting a foundation chain that’s a multiple of 14 + 4 + 1.
- Make your blanket any width by repeating Rows 4 – 11 until your blanket measures the finished width you’d like it to be.

Yarn
For the Coastal Waves Crochet Pattern Throw Blanket, I chose Lion Brand Yarns Pound of Love for the entire blanket. This yarn is incredibly soft and squishy and comes in beautiful solid colors.
When choosing my color, I went with Cascade because it stood true to the Coastal Waves title. If you have a particularly fond memory or a favorite color that you want to incorporate into your blanket, go for it!
Pound of Love is the perfect yarn for so many different crochet projects and the yardage in one ball is incredible at 1,020 yards, making it affordable too!
How to Style a Crochet Throw Blanket
1. Living Room: Drape it over the back of your sofa or an armchair for a chic yet inviting look.
2. Bedroom: Layer it at the foot of your bed for added warmth and a luxurious aesthetic.
3. Reading Nook: Pair it with a comfy chair, a good book, and a cup of tea for the ultimate cozy corner.
4. Seasonal Decor: Use crochet blankets in warm, earthy tones for fall and winter or light pastels for spring and summer.

Tassels
Finish off your Coastal Waves Throw Blanket by adding tassels to the corner, made from my simple-to-follow tassels tutorial.
You can certainly make your tassels longer or thicker, if desired. For the size that I made, you’ll wrap your yarn around a cell phone (or 4″ long piece of cardboard), 20 times and continue on with the rest of the tutorial.

A crochet throw blanket like this one is more than just a cozy blanket; itโs a piece of art that adds personality and warmth to your home, especially when made in bold beautiful colors. These pieces, when gifted to loved ones, are immensely cherished.
