How to Crochet a Cutlery Holder

This crochet cutlery holder pattern is worked in one piece crocheted from the bottom up in continuous rounds (aka a spiral).

You’ll alternate working single crochet stitches in front and back loops to create the textured stitch. After reaching a specific height, you’ll crochet a round of double crochet stitches that will become the channel for the drawstring tie.

Then, once this is all done, you’ll finish off the crochet flatware holder with two more rounds of single crochet in front and back loops.

The last few steps including making a simple drawstring tie to cinch the pouch closed and crocheting three small leaves in contrasting colors to attach them to the front of the pouch.

Best Yarn for Crochet Cutlery Holders

For a crochet pouch, while there are many options to choose from, I used an acrylic and wool blend yarn. The added wool content makes it naturally sturdy and slightly textured, which helps the holder keep its shape and securely grip the utensils without slipping.

Because of the acrylic portion, the final piece will have good stitch definition and be both low-maintenance yet durable which is great for something that gets a lot of use. This yarn is also readily available and comes in a variety of colors which allows you to choose just the right one to match the rest of your tablescape.

Yarn

This crochet silverware pouch was designed with a worsted weight yarn to make sure it can securely hold heavier pieces. If you use a thinner yarn, the pouch may become easily deformed and develop holes or areas of stretch. A bulkier weight yarn may not achieve the sleek, tidy look of this one so be sure to test out what kind of final result you want before you make too many of these in one go.

I chose Lion Brand Wool-Ease for my crochet cutlery holder. This is a worsted weight / 4, acrylic and wool blend yarn and itโ€™s currently available in glitter, multi, prints, and frosts. This yarn offers a smooth even texture in a contemporary color palette with plenty of neutral tones that are perfect for the fall.
