Oceane Crochet Beach Pants

Stay on top of the trend with these crochet beach pants that have a beautiful openwork design that allows for ventilation in the hotter months.

Whether you’re planning a day to the beach or a picnic out with your girlfriends, adding these pair of handmade pants to your outfit are sure to provide both comfort and compliments.

Youโ€™ll find the free crochet pants pattern in the post below, ย or you can find an ad-free printable PDFย (that includes all photo tutorials), onย Ravelry, orย Etsy (aff).

A woman wearing handmade green crochet pants and a white tank top standing in a field with one hand on her hip.
With strings around the waistband, you can easily adjust secure the pants according to your comfort.

These crochet pants can be styled in so many different ways, depending on the occasion. For a laid-back look, pair them with a simple neutral-colored tank top and flat sandals, letting the openwork texture shine.

To elevate the outfit for a brunch or casual outing with friends, opt for a blouse or a fitted top, adding statement jewelry that’ll set you apart from the crow. Choose neutral or earthy tones for a bohemian vibe, or go for bold colors and patterns to make a fashion-forward statement. In the colder months, you can layer with a denim jacket or lightweight cardigan to complete the look.

How to Crochet Pants

If this is your first pair of crochet pants, I’ve made the pattern easy-to-follow and added pictures to help you visualize your next steps.

These beach pants are crocheted seamlessly from the waist down, making them secure around your midriff and hips. You’ll begin with the waist and then add increases to create a looser hip section that allows for ease of movement.

After completing the hip section, you’ll split for the legs. Instructions are included to customize the length of the inseam. Once both legs are complete, you’ll crochet a simple tie and weave it in and out of the waistband.

I would highly recommend you read the entire pattern before you begin so you know exactly where you’ll need particular measurements.

Best Yarn for Crochet Pants

For crochet pants, while there are many options to choose from, I used a cotton and acrylic blend yarn. The cotton component of the yarn keeps the pants breathable and cool, while acrylic adds durability for everyday wear. This blend is largely resistant to wear and tear, making it ideal for frequently worn items like pants.

Having an acrylic blend also helps the fabric hold its shape and prevents sagging or overstretching over time because you want a good fit whenever you wear these beach pants.

Choosing Which Size to Crochet

The model wears a women’s medium and is wearing a medium sample.

To choose your size, look over the size chart below.

  • All measurements listed are measurements of the finished garment.
  • For a comfortable fit, choose a Finished Waist or Hip size that it slightly larger than your actual waist.
  • The inseams listed in the chart below are based on height averages of 5′-4″ – 5′-7″. Make sure to read over the Inseam Notes below.

Inseam Notes

  • The inseams listed in the chart below are based on height averages of 5′-4″ – 5′-7″.
  • However, when crocheting pants, it’s best to crochet the inseams based on the height of the intended wearer.
  • Instructions are included at the end of Leg #1 to easily adjust the inseam for height of intended wearer.

The following are Inseam Averages for straight leg pants, according to height:

  • 5’3 & under: 27″
  • 5’4″ – 5’7″: 32″
  • 5′-8″ & taller: 32″ – 34″

Yarn

This women’s crochet pants pattern was designed with a fingering weight yarn to make sure it would be cool and light enough to be worn in the summers. I chose not to use a heavier yarn because these are essentially meant to be beach pants that have a lot of ventilation to them.

I chose Scheepjes Whirlette Yarn in the colors Tangy Olive and Licorice for my samples. This is a fingering weight / 1, acrylic and cotton yarn and itโ€™s currently available in multiple colors. Whether you want something in a neutral shade or a bolder color, you’ll find many options in this yarn.

The crochet pants pattern is free below, but if you love to work offline, Iโ€™ve got a couple other great options for you.
